AUGUSTA, Ga. –
Ashton Thomas and
Simms Owens combined to drive in seven runs and help rally Flagler College past Augusta University 9-6 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Jaguar Park.
Flagler improved to 8-21 overall and 4-11 in the Peach Belt. Augusta dropped to 13-15 overall and 7-11 in conference play.
The Saints trailed 6-4 going into the top of the eighth inning.
Jaiden Warde led off with a single and
Taylor Clapp followed with a double to left-center to set the table for Thomas. He greeted the new Augusta pitcher, Jasper Dubberly (1-2), with a double to right-center that scored Warde and Clapp.
After a sacrifice bunt moved Thomas to second base, the next two Saints drew walks to load the bases. Owens hit a bases-clearing double to the left-center field gap to give Flagler a 9-6 lead.
Gabriel Partridge kept the Jaguars off the board in the last two innings to record his second save of the year. He scattered two hits and struck out three batters.
Steven Reiss (2-0) picked up the win in relief as he allowed one hit and struck out two in one inning pitched.
Warde collected three singles and scored a run for Flagler. Thomas, who hails from Evans, Georgia just outside of Augusta, went 2-for-5 with a double, three runs batted in, and he score two runs. Owens hit the double and finished with a season-best four RBI.
Dubberly took the loss in relief for the Jaguars. He allowed three runs on two hits in one-third of an inning.
Pat Galvin went 3-for-5 with a double, one RBI, and he scored two runs for Augusta. Gavin Wright collected three singles and scored a run.
Up next for the Saints is a non-conference game against Florida Tech on Tuesday (March 28) at 6 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
