ST. AUGUSTINE – Kam Gelwick's RBI single in the top of the ninth inning gave Eckerd College a 3-2 win over Flagler College in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday evening at Drysdale Field.
Flagler is now 6-20 while Eckerd improved to 14-7 and has won eight of its last nine games.
Kyle Ericson led off the ninth for the Tritons with a double to right-center. He finished the game 3-for-4 with a run scored. Joe Muzio followed with a single to right, but Ericson was thrown out at the plate trying to score the go-ahead run. Pinch runner Darius Bradley stole second and came around to score on Gelwick's single.
Rene Ramos retired the Saints in order in the bottom of the ninth for his first save of the season. Tucker Shalley (4-1) pitched a scoreless eighth to earn the win.
The Saints trailed 2-1 going into the home half of the sixth.
Matthew Burke hit a one-out single and scored on
Taylor Clapp's double to right-center. Burke had two of Flagler's six hits.
Gabriel Partridge (0-3) took the loss for the Saints. He pitched in the ninth and allowed one run on three hits.
Benjamin Stubbs and
Justin Haskins both held the Tritons scoreless in their outings. Stubbs fanned three batters.
The Saints return to Peach Belt Conference action this weekend at Augusta University. The series starts with a single game on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Jaguar Field.
