ST. AUGUSTINE –
Mason Gray collected three singles, scored three runs and had two runs batted in as Flagler College rolled to a 10-3 win over Young Harris College in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Sunday afternoon at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 6-19 overall and 2-10 in the Peach Belt. Young Harris dropped to 19-8 overall and 10-5 in conference play.
The Saints opened the game, in the first inning, with a pair of bunt singles and then a sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third.
Donovan Garcia's sacrifice fly scored
Simms Owens from third and Gray scored on an errant throw by the Young Harris third baseman.
Garcia gave the Saints a 3-0 lead with a solo home run in the third inning.
Flagler erupted for a five-run fifth inning as Gray had a two-run single and Garcia hit a sacrifice fly that scored two runs. Garcia finished the game with a career-high five runs batted in.
Jaiden Warde went 2-for-4 with a double while
Trey Newland and
Taylor Clapp each had a pair of singles, scored a run, and knocked in a run.
Steven Reiss (1-0) tossed a scoreless 1.1 innings in relief to earn the win. He retired all four batters he faced. The Saints used six pitchers.
Ethan Underwood collected four singles to lead the Mountain Lions. Jeremy Begora hit a triple and a solo home run.
Cole Edwards (1-1) started and took the loss after allowing three earned runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings.
Flagler hosts Eckerd College on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
