ST. AUGUSTINE –
Donovan Garcia hit a pair of doubles, a home run and drove in five runs, but Flagler College was swept in a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader by Young Harris College, 9-6 and 7-6, Friday afternoon at Drysdale Field.
Young Harris improved to 19-7 overall and 10-4 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 5-19 overall and 1-10 in conference play.
In the opener, Flagler rallied from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game at six thanks to a three-run eighth inning.
Jaiden Warde led the inning off with an infield single and came around to score on
Taylor Clapp's single to left field. A sacrifice fly pulled the Saints to within a run and
Mason Gray's double down the right field line knotted the score.
Steven Spell led off the top of the ninth with a single for the Mountain Lions. Rome Wallace's single up the middle gave Young Harris the lead for good. They added a pair of unearned runs for insurance.
Gray went 2-for-4 with a double, a run batted in and a run scored to lead the Saints.
Matthew Burke collected a pair of singles.
Donovan Garcia hit a two-run double in the fifth inning.
Huston Wynne (0-2) took the loss in relief for Flagler. He allowed an earned run on one hit in one-third of an inning on the hill.
Gage Voorhees started and tossed 6.2 innings.
James Basham hit three singles, scored a run and drove in two more for the Mountain Lions. Spell went 3-for-5 with a double and he scored two runs. Drew Bray collected a pair of single, scored two runs, drove in two runs and he drew three walks.
Dylan Beck (1-3) got the win in relief for the Mountain Lions. He allowed one run on four hits and fanned two hitters.
In the nightcap, Young Harris scored all seven of its runs in the first three innings and held off a late Flagler rally.
Donovan Garcia's three-run home run over the left field wall in the eighth inning closed the gap to one run.
Dylan Faulkner (1-3) surrendered seven runs on 10 hits, but did strikeout five batters for the Saints.
Donovan Garcia hit a double, a home run, knocked in three runs and scored two. Warde collected a pair of singles and drove in a run.
Zach Murray (2-2) scattered four hits in five scoreless innings. He struck out eight and walked four batters. Beck secured his fourth save as he tossed 1.2 scoreless innings.
Basham collected three singles, scored a run and drove in another for Young Harris.
The two teams will play the final game of the series on Sunday at noon. The forecast of rain on Saturday forced the game to be moved to Sunday.
