ST. AUGUSTINE –
Mason Gray and
Jaxson Wentworth each had three hits to lead an 18-hit onslaught as Flagler College rallied to knock off to No. 6 (
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Top 40) Rollins College 16-9 in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday afternoon at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 5-17 overall while Rollins fell to 15-6.
The Saints used a three-run seventh inning to take a 10-8 lead and tacked on six more in the eighth. Flagler scored 12 runs in the last three innings.
Matthew Burke hit a two-run single to put the Saints on top for good, 9-8. He scored on a single by Wentworth.
Flagler sent 12 men to the plate in the eighth and scored six runs on four hits.
Wentworth collected three singles, scored a run, and had four runs batted in. Gray also had three singles and scored a run. Burke scored four runs and
Taylor Clapp went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and he scored two runs.
A.J. Prendergast (1-3) picked up the win in relief as he tossed two-thirds of an inning and allowed one run on two hits.
Huston Wynne closed the game and picked up his first save. He tossed 1.2 scoreless innings and struck out two batters.
Joey Rubin went 4-for-5 with a double, one RBI and he scored three runs to lead the Tars. Spencer Sarringar hit a single, a double, and knocked in two runs.
Alfredo Caballaro (0-1) took the loss for Rollins. He surrendered three runs on four hits in one-third of an inning.
Flagler returns to Peach Belt Conference play on Friday against Young Harris College. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
