ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College pounded out a season-high 12 hits and hung on to defeat Assumption University 6-5 in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday evening at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 2-12 overall and Assumption dropped to 2-7.
The Saints used a four-run fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead.
Zach Thomas belted a three-run home run that hit the top portion of the left field wall and bounced over.
Back-to-back RBI-singles by
Jaiden Warde and
Justin Haskins provided a pair of insurance runs in the fifth to give the Saints a 6-1 lead.
The Greyhounds rallied with a run in the sixth and got three more in the seventh to close the gap to one run. Jared Berardino hit a two-run single in the seventh.
Seth Wysocki (1-2) scattered nine hits and allowed four runs in 6.1 innings to pick up his first win of the season. He fanned five batters.
Nathan Norwood earned his first save as he tossed 2.1 scoreless innings. He struck out four batters and surrendered two hits.
Tim Kudlinski went 2-for-3 with a double and he scored two runs. Haskins singled, doubled, scored a run and drove in another. Warde collected a pair of singles and had one run batted in.
Kyle Keating (1-1) allowed four runs on six hits in 3.1 innings and took the loss for Assumption.
Cole Durkan went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Berardino singled twice and knocked in a pair of runs. Christopher Rabias and Eric Preston each collected two singles.
Flagler hosts No. 12 (
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper/Division II Top 40) University of Mount Olive in a three-game weekend series start with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
