ST. AUGUSTINE – Georgia College & State University did the bulk of its scoring in three innings to defeat Flagler College 12-3 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Drysdale Field.
Georgia College improved to 3-7 overall and to 2-0 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 0-12 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
The Bobcats took a 5-0 lead thanks to a three-run fifth inning. Matthew Chester led off with a single and took third on Jaxon Weatherford's double down the left field line. A sacrifice fly plated Chester, and Weatherford scampered home on Ben Tuten's single up the middle.
The Saints scored two in the seventh to cut the deficit to 6-2.
Jaiden Warde had an RBI single and
Taylor Clapp's sacrifice fly drove home the other run.
GCSU erupted for five runs in the eighth to take an 11-2 lead.
Mason Gray collected two singles for the Saints while Warde also hit two singles, but he drove in a run too.
Daniel Fischer (0-1) allowed five runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings as he took the loss. He was one of five Flagler pitchers used.
Trey Felt (1-0) picked up the win in relief. He allowed one unearned run on two hits in 2.1 innings pitched.
The Bobcats pounded out 16 hits and Chester led the way going 4-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and three runs batted in. Tuten singled twice and knocked in two runs and scored a run. Baylin Moore collected a pair of singles and drove in a pair. Palmer Sapp went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and he scored twice.
The same two teams wrap up the weekend series tomorrow at noon.
