Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Figueroa’s 23 points helps Flagler fend off Spring Hill

MOBILE, Ala. – Omar Figueroa was one of five players to score in double-figures with 23 points as Flagler College held off Spring Hill College 99-98 in a non-conference men's basketball game Tuesday night at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.

Flagler improved to 5-3 while Spring Hill dropped to 5-5. Next up for the Saints is Eckerd College on Saturday at 4 p.m. That game is part of the Tampa Classic at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center in Tampa.

Destin Clark's basket with 2:02 left to go in the game gave the Saints their largest lead (97-87).

A pair of three-pointers by Rolontae Knowles and Bo Barber of Spring Hill cut Flagler's lead to just four. With 22 seconds remaining, Isaiah Veal was fouled shooting a three-pointer. He stepped to the free throw line and made all three to get the Badgers to within one (97-96).

Figueroa drew a foul three seconds later and made both shots to increase the Saints lead to three (99-96).

Joclay Kaniki made a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left, but Spring Hill would not get any closer. Walter Peggs, Jr.'s desperation three at the buzzer hit the side of the rim and bounced away.

Figueroa sank seven 3-pointers to go along with his two free throws. Malik Bryant added 19 points and tallied six assists coming off the bench while Destin Clark supplied 18 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Tyler Collier and Kyle Young each tacked on 12 points.

Flagler shot 54.2 percent (32-59) from the field and made 20-of-26 from the charity stripe.

Veal led the Badgers with 23 points. He made 10-of-11 from the free throw line. Peggs, Jr. added 22 points and eight rebounds. Knowles finished with 16 while Timothy Reilly and Barber each chipped in with 11 points.

The Badgers shot 59.6 percent (34-57) from the field and made 60 percent of their shots in the second half. Spring Hill made 19-of-23 from the free throw line.
