ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College closed the game on an 18-7 run to defeat a pesky Paine College club 90-78 in a non-conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler evened its record to 3-3 while Paine dropped to 1-7. The Saints host the New College of Florida on Saturday at 2 p.m.
A pair of
Destin Clark free throws with 5:13 left increased the Saints lead to 74-71 to start the run. Clark recorded a double-double with 24 points and a season-high 12 rebounds. He made 10-of-16 from the field and added four assists.
Omar Figueroa accounted for nine of the 18 points in the run for Flagler. He poured in 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
The Lions did not make a field goal (0-for-6) for a stretch of 4:50 at the time of the Saints' spurt.
The game featured 14 ties and seven lead changes. Flagler held a 40-36 lead at the half.
Jax Bouknight had a career day as he scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Flagler.
Mason Manning tallied a season-high 10 points.
Quinton Jackson of Paine led all scorers with 28 points on 11-of-18 shooting. Nate Adams recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Ivan Lawson contributed 11 points.
