No. 10 men's tennis sweeps second consecutive opponent

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — The No. 10 Flagler College men's tennis team pulled off its second consecutive sweep, defeating Georgia College 7-0 in a Peach Belt Conference matchup Sunday morning at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.

With the win, Flagler improves to 10-4 on the season and a perfect 2-0 in PBC contests. Georgia College drops to 5-8 and continues to search for its first PBC win, dropping to 0-3 in conference matches. This was the fifth match in a row for the Bobcats, which pit them against a ranked opponent, and third consecutive against a top-10 team.

The strong doubles play that head coach Jonas Piibor has become accustomed to all season long once again was on display. No. 1 doubles duo Oscar Del Granado and Philipp Lemken were the first to finish, winning 6-3 for the duo's seventh win in dual match this year. The opening doubles point was secured by the ever so reliable second doubles team of Jagger Ong-Patzwald and Nikita Tatyanin, winning 6-4 for their ninth overall win and seventh consecutive.

The strong play carried over to singles play. Diego Amilibia was the first to finish, winning his debut match at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-0. No. 66 Lemken, who returned to fourth singles, following Amilibia up with an impressive performance of his own, winning 6-2, 6-0 for his 10th win this spring.

No. 63 Del Granado clinched the match for the Saints in his first match as a ranked-singles player, dispatching his opponent, 6-2, 6-4 for his fifth straight win and eighth win overall at first singles. No. 27 Tatyanin marked his return to the singles rankings with his team-high 11th win of the spring campaign, turning in a 7-5, 6-4 result at his typical second singles position.

Petr Cervinka joined Lemken and Tatyanin in the double-digit singles win column, earning his 12th win behind a 6-3, 7-5 performance at third singles. Jacopo Denitto brought the brooms out with his eighth straight win behind a 7-6 (2), 6-4 win at fifth singles.

The Saints return to the Flagler Tennis Center for a pair of non-conference matches against St. Thomas (Fla.) on Friday April, 8 at 2 p.m., and against No. 19 Rollins College Sunday, April 10 at the same time.
