ST. AUGUSTINE –
Mason Gray,
Ashton Thomas and
Tyler Keith went a combined 9-for-14 with five runs batted in and scored five runs in Flagler College's 12-3 victory over Edward Waters University Tuesday night at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 20-23 overall while Edward Waters dropped to 20-22.
The Saints allowed three runs in the first inning to the Tigers, but rebounded in the second as
Trey Newland hit a two-run single and
Mason Gray followed with a two-run double down the left field line to erase the deficit.
Flagler added a run in the fifth and two unearned runs in the sixth to take a 7-3 lead.
The Saints took advantage of some ineffective pitching to score three runs on just one hit in the seventh. Three batters drew walks and two more were hit by a pitch.
Keith capped the scoring with a two-run blast down the right field line. He finished the night 3-for-4 with three RBI and he scored two runs.
Gray went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two RBI and he scored a run. Thomas also went 3-for-5 as he hit a double and scored two runs. Newland hit a single, drew two walks, drove in three runs, and scored twice.
Steven Reiss (3-1) earned the win in relief as he tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings and scattered four hits. He struck out four batters.
Daiton Pass, Daquarius Thompkins, and Hugo Schoening each collected two hits for Edward Waters, who is in its first season NCAA Division II competition.
Cameron Chastain (1-4) allowed four runs on six hits in two innings of work.
Flagler returns to Peach Belt Conference play this weekend with a three-game set at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
