VALDOSTA, Ga. –No. 12 (
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Top 30) Valdosta State University used a five-run second inning to defeat Flagler College 9-5 in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday night at Billy Grant Field.
Valdosta State improved to 20-6 overall and is 11-2 at home this season. Flagler is now 16-15.
The Saints jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after a two-run single by
Jaiden Warde, and he scored on
Donovan Garcia's triple down the right field line in the first inning.
The Blazers answered with a five-run third, highlighted by a bases clearing double by Ryan Romano.
Valdosta State added two more runs in the third and sixth innings.
Mason Sharp (1-0), the fourth of seven Blazer pitchers used, was credited with the win. He tossed two scoreless innings, allowed one hit and struck out two batters.
EJ Doskow and Jacob Harper led the 14-hit attack as each finished with three singles. Harper scored a pair of runs and had one run batted in. Mike Christopoulos hit a pair of doubles, scored a run and drove in three runs. Orlando Adams collected two singles, scored two runs and had two RBI.
Steven Reiss (2-1) took the loss for the Saints. He allowed seven runs on 10 hits in three innings of work.
Ryan Franklin and
Kenny Morgan saw time in relief.
Colangelo went 2-for-4 with a double and he scored two runs.
Ashton Thomas finished with a pair of singles and he drove in a run.
Flagler heads to Milledgeville, Georgia this weekend for a three-game Peach Belt Conference series against Georgia College. The first game is Friday at 6 p.m. at John Kurtz Field.
