ST. AUGUSTINE –
Myles Colangelo belted a pair of home runs in Flagler College's 10-7 loss to Florida Tech in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at Drysdale Field.
Florida Tech improved to 25-9 while Flagler fell to 16-14.
Colangelo finished the night 3-for-5 with three runs batted in and he scored three runs.
The Saints pushed across three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-3 lead.
Donovan Garcia and
Matthew Burke hit back-to-back doubles to get the inning started while a
Mason Gray sacrifice fly tied the game. Colangelo got an infield hit and took second on an errant throw. He scored on a single by
Ashton Thomas to put Flagler ahead.
The Panthers scored a run in the fourth to tie the game and then scored three unearned runs in the fifth to take a 7-4 lead. Dylan Owens led off the inning by reaching first on a throwing error. The next batter was hit, and then a bunt attempt led to a force at third base, but Flagler's third baseman couldn't gather the throw and the runner scored on the error. A two-run single by Dylan Dohonos capped the inning.
Alec Eldridge hit an RBI double in the eighth and Jack Nagy followed with a two-run triple to right field for insurance.
Danny Vassallo (5-1) earned the win in relief. He allowed two runs on three hits in 2 2/3 innings of work. Alex Carpenter allowed one hit and struck out a batter in the ninth to pick up his sixth save of the season.
Dohonos went 5-for-6 with a double, four runs batted in and he scored a run.
Anthony Nofi (2-1) took the loss for the Saints. He surrendered four runs, only one of which was earned, and three hits.
Nick Phifer,
Davian Garcia and
Gavin Barnell pitched for Flagler tonight.
Gray and
John Fiorenza each collected two hits for Flagler.
The Saints face No. 12 (
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Top 30) Valdosta State University tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Valdosta, Georgia.
