ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College was limited to three hits and fell short to Valdosta State University 1-0 in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday evening at Drysdale Field.
Valdosta State won its fifth game in a row and improved to 10-4. Flagler dropped to 6-9.
The lone run of the game came in the fourth inning. Luke Ard lofted a single down the left field line and took second when the Flagler left fielder booted the ball. Ard advanced to third on a wild pitch. The next batter, EJ Doskow, singled up the middle to score Ard. Doskow was thrown out home after trying to score on Mike Christopoulos' double to right-center.
Blazer pitching retired 14 consecutive batters in the middle of the game.
Nick Ferrara (1-0) was credited with the win in relief. He tossed two scoreless innings and struck out one batter. Adrian Garrastazu earned the save by retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth.
Doskow went 2-for-3 with a double and one run batted in.
Dylan Faulkner (1-1) scattered five hits and allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings pitched. He struck out eight batters.
Gavin Barnell and
Robert Archbold worked in relief.
Myles Colangelo,
Jaiden Warde, and
Mason Gray each had a single.
Flagler opens Peach Belt Conference play on Friday against Augusta University at 6 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
