ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College scored 14 runs and pounded out 17 hits in a 14-0 rout of Assumption University in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday evening at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 6-8 while Assumption, who is on its annual southern swing from Worcester, Massachusetts, fell to 2-2.
The Saints scored all 14 runs in the first three innings. Flagler sent 13 men to the plate in the second inning and scored seven runs on seven hits.
Luke Welborn blasted a grand slam to right field and
Trey Newland hit a two-run single.
John Fiorenza hit a two-run home run in the Saints' six-run third inning.
Steven Reiss (1-0) picked up the win in relief. He tossed three scoreless innings and allowed one hit.
Gabriel Partridge started and went three innings.
Davian Garcia fanned five in his two innings of work and
Kenny Morgan struck out the side to end the game.
Welborn went 3-for-5 with the grand slam and six runs batted in.
Ashton Thomas went 3-for-4 with a double and he scored three runs.
Myles Colangelo hit a pair of doubles, scored two runs and knocked in another.
Shea Ryan (0-1) took the loss for the Greyhounds. He surrendered eight runs on nine hits in two innings of work.
Connor Wironen, Owen Podolec, and Kevin Cox all hit a single.
Flagler hosts Valdosta State University tomorrow at 5 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
