ST. AUGUSTINE –
Mason Gray and
Ashton Thomas had four of Flagler College's six hits in an 8-1 loss to Rollins College Friday night at Drysdale Field.
Rollins extended its winning streak to seven games and improved to 8-2. Flagler is now 5-7. The same two teams meet tomorrow at 1 p.m.
The Tars scored early, plating a run in the second inning and then added two more in the third. Chase Achuff hit a run-scoring single to right field to put Rollins ahead 2-0 in the third. Now with runners on the corners and one out, Adams Torres placed a bunt down the first base line to score Joey Rubin from third base with the eventual game-winning run.
Flagler got one run back in the bottom of the third on
Ashton Thomas' RBI-single to left field, which scored
Mason Gray from second base.
Rollins added a single run in the eighth and four more in the ninth.
Jaylyn Whitehead (3-0) scattered four hits and allowed one run in six innings pitched. He fanned nine batters. Austin Long earned his second save as he tossed three scoreless innings and allowed just two hits. He struck out three batters.
Rubin collected three singles and scored two runs for the Tars. Jeslyn Whitehead hit three singles, drove in three runs and scored another.
Gage Voorhees (1-1) allowed three runs on seven hits and fanned five batters in seven innings of work.
Jake Hill,
Anthony Nofi, and
Ryan Franklin all pitched in relief.
Coy Phillips and
Trey Newland had the other hits for Flagler.
