MELBOURNE, Fla. –
Trey Newland went 2-for-3 with an RBI double but Flagler College allowed two runs in the ninth inning and Florida Tech came away with a 3-2 victory in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field.
Florida Tech (7-1) extended its winning streak to seven games. Flagler is now 2-5.
Hayden Kimball hit a one-out double to left to get the Panthers going in the ninth. A walk and a strikeout followed. Dylan Dahonos laced a double to left-center that scored both base runners to end the game.
Noah Steckley (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn the win. He did not allow a hit and struck out three batters.
Seven different Panthers had a hit.
Jake Hill (1-1) took the loss in relief for the Saints. He worked the ninth and allowed both hits and both runs.
Nick Phifer started and tossed four shutout innings.
Anthony Nofi faced four batters in the eighth and fanned two of them.
Mason Gray,
Ashton Thomas,
Matthew Burke, and
John Fiorenza each hit a single. Thomas' infield hit in the first scored a run.
Flagler heads to St. Petersburg, Florida this weekend for a three-game series against Eckerd College. The first game is Friday night at 6 p.m.
