Flagler loses both ends of a doubleheader to Saint Leo

ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College ran into a powerful Saint Leo University offense that produced 18 runs and 32 hits and the Lions swept the doubleheader 7-2 and 11-4 Saturday afternoon at Drysdale Field.

Saint Leo improved to 6-2 overall and Flagler moved to 2-4.

In the opener, Saint Leo plated a pair of runs in the seventh inning to take a 4-2 lead. Sam Crail broke the tie as he knocked in Buck Anderson who led off the game with an infield hit. Crail later scored on a single to left field by Mike Wyman.

The Lions added a run in the eight and two more in the ninth.

Dariel Fregio (2-0) allowed two runs on four hits to pick up the win. He walked three and fanned five. Drew Rudsinski pitched three scoreless innings and surrendered one hit to earn his first save of the year.

Wyman went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and one run batted in. Dylan McDonald collected three singles and Bobby Sparling went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, two RBI, and he scored two runs.

Gabriel Partridge (0-2) took the loss on the mound for the Saints. He allowed three runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings of work. Dylan Faulkner started and tossed 3 1/3 innings. Ryan Franklin finished the game.

Ashton Thomas and John Fiorenza each had two singles. Fiorenza had one RBI.

In the second game, the Lions started early by scoring three runs in the first.

Wyman hit a two-run double and came around to score on Adrien Roa's single to right.

Saint Leo had a big six-run frame in the eighth.

Luke Pappas (1-0) got the win in relief. He allowed two unearned runs in 3 1/3 innings of work. Pappas did not allow a hit and he struck out five.

Wyman went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, three RBI, and he scored three runs.

Seth Wysocki (0-1) allowed three earned runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings of work. He struck out five batters. Anthony Nofi, Gavin Barnell, Steven Reiss, and Robert Archbold all pitched for Flagler.

Thomas and Tyler Keith each hit a double. Thomas scored a run and Keith drove in a run.

Flagler hits the road for the first time this season as they head to Melbourne, Florida to take on Florida Tech on Tuesday.
