Saints fought hard in close loss to the Wolves

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Sharale McCormick and Sara Pedraza combined to score 33 points and grab nine rebounds, but it wasn't enough as Flagler College was defeated by Northern State University 76-65 at the Bahama House Shootout Friday afternoon at the ICI Center.

Northern State, from Aberdeen, South Dakota, improved to 5-1 while Flagler is now 1-5. Flagler will face the University of Sioux Falls tomorrow at 1 p.m.

The game was tight throughout as the score was tied, 31-all, at the half and 52 through three quarters. There were eight ties and 10 lead changes.

The Wolves used a brief 9-0 run in the fourth quarter to take a 64-54 lead with 5:49 left in the game. Northern State out-scored Flagler 24-13 in the final 10 minutes.

McCormick led the Saints with 18 points and five rebounds while Pedraza tallied 15 points and grabbed four rebounds. Maddie Erickson, Taylor Gardner and Carleigh Grimm each scored eight points. Sophie VanDyke corralled a season-high seven rebounds.

Kailee Oliverson led all scorers with 23 points for Northern State. Laurie Rogers recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Rianna Fillipi added 16 points and had five assists.

The Wolves held a 34-14 advantage in scoring in the paint and scored 17 second chance points on 13 offensive rebounds.
