MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. –
Jordan Berglin and
Logan Garcia had 14 and 11 kills, respectively, but it wasn't enough in Flagler College's 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 22-25, 9-15) loss to Georgia College in a Peach Belt Conference match Saturday afternoon at the Centennial Center.
Georgia College snapped a five-match losing streak and improved to 11-16 overall and 7-6 in the Peach Belt. Flagler had its four-match winning streak come to an end as the Saints are now 13-8 overall and 7-5 in conference play. The same two teams meet tomorrow at 1 p.m.
Berglin recorded her seventh double-double of the season as she added 15 digs to her line. Garcia added five total blocks.
Edie Lamoreaux collected a team-high 22 digs while
Kennedy Muff finished with 42 assists and 10 digs for her sixth double-double of the year.
Audrey Simmons finished with six total blocks.
Rachel Machovec, who played for Flagler from 2018-21, is a graduate transfer at Georgia College. She recorded a double-double with a match-high 20 kills and 21 digs. Machovec added five total blocks. Callie Miller came off the bench to provide 10 kills. Alanis Bernis had a match-high 26 digs and Emily Long added a double-double of her own with 19 assists and 10 digs. Brooke Roberts had seven total blocks.
The first set featured eight ties and five lead changes. The Saints tied the score at 22 after a hitting error by Roberts and took the lead for good when Simmons and Garcia blocked Machovec's attack attempt. Garcia finished the set with a cross-court smash.
The second set was as close as the first with nine ties and five lead changes. An attack error by Machovec gave Flagler a 21-20 lead, but Georgia College would go on to score the next three points and hold on to win 25-22.
Machovec's kill tied the score for the 10
th time in the third set, this time it was 23-all. Simmons' kill gave the Saints the lead and Miller's hitting error gave Flagler the win.
The Bobcats opened the fourth set on an 8-3 run. The Saints were able to rally back and close the deficit to one point on several occasions, but could never knot the score.
In the fifth and deciding set, Georgia College opened with an 8-3 lead and never trailed.
