Simmons’ season-high 18 kills rallies Saints past Bobcats

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Audrey Simmons recorded a season-high 18 kills to help lead Flagler College to a 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-9) victory over Georgia College in a Peach Belt Conference match Sunday afternoon at the Centennial Center.

Flagler improved to 14-8 overall and 8-5 in the Peach Belt. The Saints concluded the seven-match road trip with a 5-2 record. Georgia College dropped to 11-17 overall and 7-7 in conference play. The same two teams meet Saturday (Nov. 5) at 6 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium for "Senior Night."

Logan Garcia and Cecilia Robert each added 11 kills. Garcia also tacked on six total blocks. Kennedy Muff tallied a career-high 57 assists and just missed another double-double as she had nine digs. She added five kills and four total blocks. Edie Lamoreaux had a career-high 35 digs.

Rachel Machovec led the Bobcats with 14 kills and 15 digs. She also had five aces. Emily Long added 28 assists and Alanis Bernis collected 25 digs.

Flagler held a 23-20 lead in the first set, but Georgia College closed the set with five consecutive points. Machovec had three aces in that spurt.

A Simmons kill brought the Saints to within one (16-15) in the second set but that was a close a Flagler would get. Lamoreaux had 13 digs in that set.

Flagler won a close third set to remain alive in the match. There were six ties and four lead changes. Robert had five kills for the Saints and Muff tallied 14 assists.

In the fourth set, the Bobcats fought off a pair of set points before a Simmons kill won the set and tied the match at 2-all. She finished with five kills and hit an efficient .571 with just one error on seven swings.

A kill by Garcia sparked a 6-1 run by the Saints in the final set to win the match. She led Flagler with four kills and hit .500 as she had one error on six swings.
