AUGUSTA, Ga. – Flagler College junior forward
Chris Wilson was selected as the Peach Belt Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 27, as announced by conference officials Monday afternoon.
Wilson is the first women's basketball player at Flagler to receive the weekly honor from the PBC more than once in a regular season. The last time a women's basketball player was selected as the player of the week multiple times in a year was during the 2005-06 season. Jamie Allenbaugh was the Florida Sun Conference Player of the Week on Feb. 14 and 21.
Wilson picks up her second weekly honor in the last three weeks after leading the Saints to three straight wins with 20.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. The St. Louis, Missouri native shot 60.5% from the field (26-43) and 81.8% from the line. In the opener against No. 22 North Georgia, she hit 9-of-11 shots (81%) and all six free throws for 24 points with 12 rebounds. She scored 10 of Flagler's 20 fourth-quarter points to force an overtime period as Flagler gave North Georgia their second conference loss. She had another double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Francis Marion. Wilson is currently second in the league in steals, third in field goals made and field goal percentage, fourth in rebounds and rebounds per game, and sixth in points and points per game.
Wilson and the Saints are back in action on Wednesday as they host Columbus State University at Flagler Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m.
