Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College swept a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader from Flagler College, 6-0 and 4-1, Saturday afternoon at the Peeler Complex.
Georgia College won its fifth game in a row and improved to 31-11 overall and 12-2 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dropped to 22-21 overall and 6-8 in conference play.
In the first game, Haley Howell's two-run single in the first inning was more than enough offense for Georgia College and pitcher Jessie Morris (9-1). Morris tossed a seven-hit shutout.
Howell added a two-run single in the third and Hannah Coursey hit a two-run triple in the fifth.
Holland Coursey collected two singles and scored three runs.
Ally Marcano (9-11) allowed six runs on seven hits in the loss. She walked six and struck out eight.
Natalie Murphy and
Jaclyn Mijuskovic each hit two singles.
In the second game, Jolie Bush got the Bobcats on the board first with an RBI single in the fourth and Lindley Bruce followed with a sacrifice fly to give Georgia College a 2-0 lead.
Flagler got a run back in the top of the fifth inning when
Garland Evans' double scored
Maria Kappos, who led off the inning with a single, from second base.
A two-run double by Holland Coursey gave Georgia College the necessary insurance runs.
Flagler had the bases loaded with two outs in the seventh inning, but reliever Danielle Rubin came in to close the game and tossed two pitches, the second being a ground ball to second baseman Sutton Long who flipped the ball to shortstop Amber Coy for the force out at second.
Kayla Price (8-2) tossed 4 2/3 innings and allowed one run on five hits. Rubin recorded her second save of the season.
Nicole Humphries led the Bobcats going 3-for-3 with a run scored. Long added a pair of singles.
Katlyn McCue (13-10) took the loss in the circle for the Saints. She scattered 11 hits and allowed four runs.
Natalie Murphy,
Morgan Murphy Kappos and Mijuskovic each had one single.
Flagler will take on Augusta University on Monday (April 16) at 1 p.m. at Augusta, Georgia. The doubleheader was moved from Sunday due to the threatening weather forecast for tomorrow.
