INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Flagler College women's golf team held steady at No. 11 in the second release of the NCAA Division II regional rankings, which came out Thursday (April 20).
There will be one more regional ranking before the final selection for super regional play on May 1.
Flagler won its second Peach Belt Conference title last weekend at the World Golf Village's Slammer & Squire Course.
The NCAA Division II Women's Super Regional No. 2 (South and Southeast Regions) will be played May 8-10 at The Members Club at Woodcreek in Elgin, South Carolina. That will be one of four super regionals before the national championship, which will be May 17-20 at the Findlay (Ohio) Country Club.
To advance to the national tournament, the team must finish in the top three in its respective super regional, and the low three individuals, not on those teams, will advance to the finals.
There are three Peach Belt Conference teams in the top 14 of the South Region ranking. The University of Montevallo stayed at No. 9 while Armstrong State University remained at No. 12.
The national champion has come from this region in 16-of-the-last-17 years, including Rollins College who won the title last year. Lynn University won the national title in 2013 and 2014 while Nova Southeastern University has won it all four years in a row (2009-12). Rollins has won the national title six times and Florida Southern College has won it four times.
Barry University is ranked No. 1 for the second consecutive poll and is followed by Saint Leo University, Rollins, Nova Southeastern, Florida Tech, and Lynn. The University of West Florida holds at No. 7 and Lee University continues at No. 8. The University of West Georgia is sandwiched, once again, in between Montevallo and Flagler at No. 10. Florida Southern (No. 13) and Wingate University (No. 14) rounds out the ranking as they did last week.
The women are preparing for the NCAA Division II Super Regional No. 2 in Elgin, South Carolina, May 8-10.
