GULFPORT, Fla. –
Henriette Stranda sank a putt for par on the 17
th hole to take a one-stroke lead and went on to win the Eckerd Invitational, which concluded Tuesday at the Pasadena Yacht & Country Club (par 72; 5,996 yards). Stranda finished with a 7-under par 209 (72-68-69) and Flagler finished in second place with a 24-over 888 (288-300-300).
Up next for the Saints is the St. Simon's Intercollegiate, which will be held Oct. 6-7 at St. Simon's Island, Georgia.
Stranda and Wingate's Amely Bochaton went back and forth all day, but Stranda started the day leading by two strokes. Bochaton closed to within a stroke after the second hole where she made par but Stranda had a bogey. Stranda had a birdie on No. 7 to increase the lead back to two strokes. Bochaton birdied the last two holes on the front side and they were tied. Stranda regained the lead after a birdie on No. 11 but had a double bogey on No. 12 where Bochaton made a birdie putt to take a one-stroke lead. Stranda went back in front by a stroke after back-to-back birdies on holes No. 14 and 15. Bochaton pulled into a tie thanks to a birdie on No. 16, but she followed with a bogey on No. 17 and Stranda sank her putt for par. Both closed out No. 18 with pars.
Wingate University topped the 11-team field with a 13-over 877 (294-293-290). The host school, Eckerd College, finished in third place, behind Flagler, with a 39-over 903 (295-307-301). Nova Southeastern University finished in fourth place with a 40-over 904 (311-304-289). Anderson University rounded out the top five with a 41-over 905 (296-301-308).
Bochaton finished in second place with a 6-under 210 (70-72-68). Sophie Foulds of Eckerd carded a 2-over 218 (70-74-74) to finish in third place. Claudia Hastings of Anderson and Olivia Meinecke of Wingate tied for fourth place with a 3-over 219.
Sofia Terzoli shot an even par 72 today that moved her up to a tie for 12
th place with a 9-over 225 (75-78-72).
Tabitha Hanely and
Victoria Veator both shot an 11-over 227 and tied for 15
th place.
Addison King, playing as an individual, finished with a 20-over 236 (82-74-80).
Ida Petersen wrapped up the tournament at 30-over and
Halahn Lee, Flagler's other individual player, finished at 40-over.
