INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Flagler College junior
Andrew Smith found out on Tuesday that he has qualified for the NCAA Division II Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships, March 11-12, in the mile run at the Robert W. Plaster Center at Pittsburg (Kan.) State University.
Smith is the first Flagler track athlete to advance to the NCAA Division II Championships in the brief two-year history of the program.
His season-best time of 4:09.13, which was a converted time, from the Vince Brown Invitational on Feb. 6 got him to the national finals. The track at the meet was a flat track so his time posted there needed to be converted into a universal time to adequately measure athletes in performances. His time is 16
th out of 17 runners in the field in the mile run.
Earlier this week Smith was selected to the USTFCCCA All-Southeast Region team.
