ResultsGREENWOOD, S.C. – The No. 12-ranked (Division II GCAA poll) Flagler College men's golf team won the 17-team Bearcat Golf Classic Tuesday (March 24) afternoon at the Greenwood Country Club (par 72; 6,800 yards). The Saints, who held a 10-stroke lead going into the final round, finished with a 278 for a 54-hole total of 833.
The 833 strokes broke a Flagler record for fewest in a 54-hole tournament. The previous record was 861, set last year at the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate. Another record fell today as
Sebastian Barnoya, who won medalist honors for the first time in his career with a 203 (69-66-68), broke
Spencer Schindler's lowest score vs. par in a 54-hole tournament record with a 13-under par. Schindler shot an 11-under at the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate.
Finishing a distant second to Flagler was Georgia College which shot an 858 (285-280-293). No. 16 Columbus State University finished third with an 859 (289-282-288) while Clayton State University and Newberry College rounded out the top five with scores of 863 and 864, respectively.
Barnoya entered the final round with just a one stroke lead over Ryan Trocchio of Georgia College. Trocchio shot a 1-over 73 and fell to third place with a 7-under 209. Tommy Hurst of Newberry shot a 3-under 69 in the final round to move up from third to second and finish five shots back of Barnoya with a 208.
Schindler shot an even par 72 in the final round and tied for fourth place with a 5-under 211 for his third top five finish of the year.
Jordan Ebanks, who tied Flagler's record for the lowest round ever with a second round 65, climbed all the way up from 20
th place to tie for eighth with a 4-under 212 with the help of a final round 3-under 69. It's Ebanks' fifth top 10 finish this year.
Zach Horne (+2, 218) and
Michael Boss (+2, 218) both tied for 34
th place. Horne shot a 3-under 69 in the final round to move all the way up from where he started the day in 64
th place.
Jack Kegelmeyer, playing as an individual, carded a 13-over 229.
This tournament served as a preview for the Saints of the course they will be playing on for the Peach Belt Conference Championship April 17-19.
Flagler will compete in a dual match against Gustavus Adolphus College on April 2 at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club.
