AUGUSTINE – Flagler College pounded out 14 hits and scored 14 runs to earn a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader sweep of Augusta State University Tuesday evening, on “Senior Night,” at Flagler Field. Flagler won the opener 12-0 in a game shortened to five innings and then completed the sweep with a 2-0 win.

Flagler honored the careers of Marissa Blake, Whitney Little and Tori Jolley before the games.

Flagler extended its winning streak to seven games and improved to 31-15 overall and 12-8 in the Peach Belt. Augusta State lost its third straight game and fell to 18-28 overall and 7-11 in conference play.

In the opener, Flagler erupted for an 11-run fourth inning en route to a 12-0 win.

Darcey Cochran got the Saints on the board first with an RBI-double in the third inning.

Then came the mammoth fourth inning. Flagler sent 15 batters to the plate and scored 11 runs on seven hits. Malloree Escue hit a two-run double. Little added a two-run single. And Escue, in her second at bat of the inning, hit a two-run home run.

That would be all of the offense that Kalyn Loverich (14-6) would need. She tossed a five-hit shutout and fanned two batters.

Escue went 2-for-3 with four runs batted in a scored two runs, all of which happened in the fourth inning. Little singled twice, scored two runs and drove in two more. She also stole two bases. Cochran singled, doubled and knocked in a run. Molly Whittington singled twice and scored a run.

Haley Birkle (7-13) tossed four innings and allowed 11 hits and eight earned runs for the Jaguars.

Five different Augusta State players had a base hit.

In game two, Katie Enright (13-6) struck out a career-high 11 batters and tossed a three-hit shutout for Flagler.

The Saints scored both runs in the fourth inning. Cochran led off by drawing a walk and was sacrificed over to second base. Two batters later, Lauren Bessent singled home Cochran with the game's first run. Bessent came around to score when Escue reached on an error by the Jaguar shortstop.

Augusta State just couldn't get anything going against Enright. Only two base runners reached scoring position.

Jolley hit a double for the Saints. Flagler only had three hits in the game.

Kristen Mills (8-6) went the distance and allowed three hits and one earned run for Augusta State.

Three different Jaguars hit singles.

Flagler concludes its regular season at Armstrong Atlantic State University on Saturday (April 13) at 2 p.m.
