Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. –
Ante Gospic scored a game-high 20 points, but none were bigger than his two free throws with five seconds left as Flagler College edged Georgia College 60-58 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Thursday night at the Centennial Center.
Flagler snapped its six-game losing streak and improved to 5-7 overall and 1-4 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College lost its second game in a row and fell to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in league play.
Gospic scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half and he grabbed 10 rebounds for his fifth consecutive double-double. He made 6-of-12 from the field and blocked a career-high four shots.
Richard Brown came off of the bench to supply 13 points as he sank three 3-pointers.
Matt Clark added 10 points. Eight of those points came in the first half.
Adam Jones grabbed 10 rebounds.
Flagler shot 47.4% (9-19) from 3-point range and made 44.7% of its field goal attempts.
Scott Ferguson led the Bobcats with 18 points and added nine rebounds. Aaron Robinson came off of the bench to contribute 11points while Tarrence Chatman tacked on 10 points and five rebounds.
Georgia College forced 16 Flagler turnovers and converted those into 21 points. The Bobcats struggled from the field shooting 38.6% (22-57), including a 33.3% (9-27) mark in the first half.
The game was close throughout with nine ties and 13 lead changes. Flagler had the largest lead of the game, seven points, early in the second half.
Ferguson scored five points for the Bobcats in the last five minutes of the game, and his pull-up jumper with 1:02 left in the game gave Georgia College a 58-56 lead. However, Gospic made a spinning layup to tie the game with 41 seconds left. On the next trip down the court, Ferguson missed a driving layup attempt and Gospic gathered the rebound with six seconds left. Instead of the game possibly going to overtime, Ferguson fouled Gospic on the rebound attempt for a one-and-one attempt. Gospic made the first free throw and made the bonus.
Ferguson had a chance to make amends with a layup at the horn, but Gospic blocked the shot as time expired.
Flagler hosts Lander University on Saturday (Jan. 12) at 3:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
