COLUMBUS, Ga. –
Camden Andrews scored a team high 17 points as Flagler College held off a late Columbus State University rally for a 75-74 victory in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. Center.
Flagler erased a two-game losing streak and improved to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the Peach Belt. Columbus State had its five-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Saints return home to face Georgia Southwestern State University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Flagler Gym.
Flagler led by 13 (68-55) with four minutes left to go in the game and then had a 10-point lead (70-60) with 2:19 remaining in the game. The Cougars scored the next eight points to make it a one possession game (70-68) after Jordan Mitchell's transition layup with 1:30 left.
The Saints did not attempt a field goal in the last 2:19 of the game. Flagler made 5-of-6 from the free throw line. A desperation three-pointer at the horn by the Cougars made it a one-point game.
Andrews made 8-of-9 from the free throw line, and the Saints made 19-of-23 in the game, good for an 82.6 percentage.
Jordan Smith added 13 points and six rebounds while
Tymoteusz Pszczola and
Melvin Teal each contributed 10 points.
Leo Langstaff II led Columbus State with a game high 18 points. Jaylen Harris added 15 points and nine rebounds. Delexcrius Morton supplied 13 points and three assists while Marlon Smith finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.
The Cougars made 60 percent (21-of-35) of their free throws including shooting at a 52.4 percent clip (11-of-21) in the second half alone.
