AUGUSTA, Ga. –
Rahdir Hicks scored a team high 16 points and he added five rebounds, but Augusta University would hold off a late Flagler College charge for a 56-53 win in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball opener Wednesday night at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
Augusta remained undefeated at home (4-0) and evened its overall record at 5-5. Flagler leaves with a 3-3 overall mark. Up next for the Saints is Columbus State University on Saturday at Columbus, Georgia.
The Saints trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half and was down by seven (56-49) with a little over two minutes left to play. Hicks made a jumper, and
Tymoteusz Pszczola sank a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left to get Flagler to within three points. Hicks had a chance to tie the game with a three-pointer, but Augusta got the rebound, and a foul was committed by Flagler with six-tenths of a second left. The free throw was missed and the horn sounded.
Melvin Teal came off the bench to add 10 points and grab five rebounds for the Saints.
Elias Palsson led the Jaguars with 16 points, eight rebounds, and he blocked two shots. Luis Nonfon recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game high 15 rebounds.
