AUGUSTA, Ga. – No. 10 (Campbell's/ITA Division II Rankings) Flagler College defeated No. 35 Augusta State University 5-2 in the quarterfinal round of the Peach Belt Conference Women's Tennis Championship Friday afternoon at the Newman Tennis Center.
The Saints improved their record to 11-5 overall while the Jaguars dropped to 13-9.
Flagler won two-of-three doubles matches to start the day.
Lauren Pfeiffer (Fort Pierce, Fla., Florida Gulf Coast Univ.) and
Rachel Gould (Toronto, Ontario, Vaughan Road Academy) won 8-3 over Julie Fontaine and Victoria Lindqvist.
Jennifer Saviano (Davie, Fla., St. Thomas Aquinas HS) and
Veronica Figueroa (Orlando, Fla., Cypress Creek HS) downed Marina Ferreria and Camilla Correa 8-5. Bianca Machado and Roberta Oliveira won a tough match over
Gabby Scammacca (Sugarloaf Key, Fla. , Key West HS) and
Deon Miller (Miami, Fla., Dr. Michael Krop HS) 9-7.
In singles play, Pfeiffer won 6-4 and 6-1 over Lindqvist. Saviano defeated Machado by identical 6-2 scores. Miller won at No. 4 singles in straight sets over Lissa Murakami.
Flagler, the No. 3 seed, will move onto play No. 2 seed and No. 8 ranked Columbus State University in a semifinal match tomorrow (Apr. 16) at 1 p.m.
