POOLER, Ga. − Flagler College's
Joel Dahlenburg (St. Augustine, Fla., Bartram Trail HS) took home medalist honors with a 1-over par 211 and helped the team to its second consecutive tournament win with a 876 in the 11-team AASU Pirate Invitational which concluded Tuesday at Savannah Quarters (par 70; 6793 yards).
Flagler was coming off its Outback Steakhouse Collegiate title earlier this month (Feb. 8). Dahlenburg won his first tournament since winning the Outback Steakhouse Collegiate, Feb. 2, 2010.
Flagler edged out the host school, Armstrong Atlantic State University, by four strokes. Dahlenburg topped the 66-man field and held off Matt Motes of Armstrong Atlantic by two strokes. His 211 he shot in the tournament is the best he has had in a 54-hole tournament in his career at Flagler.
The Saints had two more top five finishers -
Greg Mergel (Allenwood, N.J., Wall Township HS) and
Chris Bray (Hilliard, Fla., Hilliard HS). Both tied for third place with 8-over 218's. Bray tied Dahlenburg for the low round of the day for Flagler with a 1-over 70.
Alex Bennett (Rochester, Mich., Scottsdale CC) tied for 25th place with a 230 and
Christopher Hughes (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Ponte Vedra HS) finished in a tie for 43rd place with a 236.
Flagler hosts the University of Illinois at Springfield on Mar. 11.
