ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Flagler College and Armstrong Atlantic State University split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader Friday afternoon at Saints Field. The Saints rallied to win the opener 7-6 in 10 innings and Armstrong Atlantic took the second game 13-1.

Flagler's record stands at 27-21 overall and 9-9 in the Peach Belt Conference while Armstrong Atlantic is now 30-15 overall and 9-9 in the conference.

In the opener, Flagler held an early 4-0 lead only to see it go away in the sixth inning when AASU tied the game. The game went to extra innings and the Pirates took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 10th, but the Saints countered with three runs in the bottom half for the win.

Trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the 10th, Heather Hill (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Indian River CC) reached first base when AASU shortstop Amber Janus had trouble fielding the ball. After a walk and a pop up, Katherine Cabrera (Hialeah, Fla./Miami-Dade College) singled off Pirate pitcher Emily Headrick and the ball ricocheted towards second base. Hill rounded third on the play and second baseman April Jowers threw the ball away allowing Hill to score and the Saints had runners at second and third. Britton Hammel-Cobb replaced an injured Headrick in the circle. Brandy Luke (Orlando, Fla./Indian River State College) laid down a suicide squeeze bunt that Hammel-Cobb fielded, but Sam Boatner (Auburndale, Fla./Polk CC) beat the flip to the plate and the Saints tied the score. The next batter, Brittany Simmons (Ocala, Fla./Chattanooga State Tech CC), with runners at second and third, belted a single to center to score the game-winning run.

Kelly Riddick (Hampton, Fla./Central Florida CC) (17-10) tossed all 10 innings and allowed eight hits, three earned runs, walked 10 and struck out nine. She threw 200 pitches in the game.

Brittney Hatem (Hialeah, Fla./Wallace CC-Dothan) went 2-for-4 with one run batted in. Tori Jolley (Keystone Heights, Fla./Keystone Heights HS) and Luke each hit a double for Flagler.

Headrick (4-5) went six and two-thirds innings in relief, allowed three hits, three unearned runs and struck out eight.

Jowers singled twice, doubled and scored two runs for the Pirates. Ashley Buckett singled twice.

AASU HC ejected in bottom of second inning for making two trips in same inning.

In the second game, the Pirates hit four home runs and pounded out a total of 17 hits in the 13-1 rout which was stopped after five innings.

Bailie Temples belted two home runs in the game. She hit a solo shot, which followed a solo homer by Erin Billingsley, which would prove to be enough runs the Pirates would need. Temples added a two-run shot in the second inning and finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three more driven in.

Billingsley also went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Meagan Qualls doubled twice and collected the RBI.

Shelby Duff (9-4) tossed five innings, scattered three hits and allowed one run for Armstrong Atlantic.

Kristen Chapman (Jacksonville, Fla./Sandalwood HS) (8-7) tossed one and two-thirds innings and surrendered seven hits and seven runs.

Kirsten Immel (Ocala, Fla./Vanguard HS) hit a double for the Saints.

Flagler will play its season finale tomorrow (Apr. 10) against conference-rival Lander University at 1 p.m. at Saints Field. The seven Flagler seniors will be honored prior to the start of the doubleheader.
