MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Flagler College and Georgia College & State University split a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the Peeler Complex. Flagler won the opener 7-4 but GCSU took the second game 5-2.

Flagler is now 26-20 overall and 8-8 in the Peach Belt while GCSU goes to 11-30 overall and 4-12 in the conference.

In the opener, Lauren Ely (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) hit a two-run double in the third inning and also added an RBI single in the fourth to help Flagler take a 4-0 lead.

The Bobcats tallied a run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Saints added three more runs for insurance in the top of the sixth. Brittney Hatem (Hialeah, Fla./Wallace CC-Dothan) hit an RBI single and Katherine Cabrera (Hialeah, Fla./Miami-Dade College) added a two-run single to give Flagler a 7-1 lead.

GCSU rallied for two runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh.

Kelly Riddick (Hampton, Fla./Central Florida CC) (16-10) went five innings and allowed just four hits, one run and struck out five.

Ely paced the offense going 3-for-4 with a double and three runs batted in while Kirsten Immel (Ocala, Fla./Vanguard HS) singled three times and drove in a run. Cabrera singled, doubled and collected two RBI while Hatem singled twice and scored twice.

Haley Burnett (8-14) tossed four innings and surrendered six hits and four runs. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles.

Belourse Jean-Francis singled and doubled for the Bobcats.

In the second game, Burnett hit an RBI double to break a 1-all tie in the third, and later in the inning Kayla Smith socked a two-run home run to give GCSU a 4-1 lead.

That would be all Burnett (9-14) would need as she threw her second complete game of the day and scattered eight hits and two runs.

Allison Schwimmer and Jean-Francis each hit two singles.

Kristen Chapman (Jacksonville, Fla./Sandalwood HS) (8-6) tossed three and one-third innings and surrendered five hits and four runs.

Heather Hill (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Indian River CC) tripled and homered for the Saints. She drove in two runs. Immel singled twice.

Flagler hosts Armstrong Atlantic State University on Apr. 9 at 3 p.m. in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader.
