COLUMBUS, Ga. − Columbus State swept a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader from Flagler College Saturday afternoon at Lady Cougar Field. Columbus State scored three times in the seventh to rally to a 5-4 win in the first game and rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to win the second game 7-5.

The Lady Cougars improved to 13-18-1 overall and to 2-6 in the Peach Belt. The Saints fell to 18-16 overall and 4-4 in league play.

In the opener, Tori Jolley (Keystone Heights, Fla./Keystone Heights HS) belted a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game, then two batters later Katherine Cabrera (Hialeah, Fla./Miami Dade College) hit a two-run shot to give Flagler a 4-2 lead.

However, the Lady Cougars would counter in the bottom of the seventh. Kori Waugh hit a bases loaded single to plate a run and then Morgan Staffins followed by drawing a bases loaded walk which tied the game 4-4. The next batter, pinch hitter Melanie Trevathan, ended the game when she was issued a free pass.

Carrie Jones singled and doubled for Columbus State. Jennifer Isasi (1-1) pitched the seventh inning and allowed one hit to earn the win.

Lauren Ely (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) and Kaycee Lisa (Seminole, Fla./Seminole HS) each singled twice for the Saints.

Brandy Luke (Orlando, Fla./Indian River State College) (1-1) took the loss in relief. She pitched one-third of an inning, allowed one hit and two earned runs. Kelly Riddick (Hampton, Fla./Central Florida CC) started and then came back to face the last two hitters of the game, pitched six-plus innings. She surrendered four hits and two runs.
