CLEARWATER, Fla. − The Flagler Saints ended the Eckerd Tritons Spring Invitational by splitting two game and finish the three-tournament with a 5-1 record. Flagler fell in the opener to the University of West Florida, 7-1, but defeated the host school, Eckerd College, by the same 7-1 score Sunday afternoon at the Eddie C. Moore Complex.
Flagler leaves with an 8-4 overall record.
In the opener, West Florida wasted little time getting on the board, plating four runs in the first inning. That would be all Jillian Lafrance (7-2) would need as she tossed a complete game five-hitter. Lafrance allowed one run and struck out six batters.
Shannon Miles went 3-for-5 with a grand slam in the first inning and finished with five runs batted in. Karri Brisbee and Melissa Chastang each singled twice for the Argonauts.
Brittney Hatem (Hialeah, Fla./Wallace CC-Dothan) hit a solo home run in the fourth inning for Flagler's lone tally.
Brittany Simmons (Ocala, Fla./Chattanooga State Tech) singled twice.
Kelly Riddick (Hampton, Fla./Central Florida CC) (5-2) pitched three-plus innings and surrendered eight hits and five earned runs.
Kristen Chapman (Jacksonville, Fla./Sandalwood HS) finished the game and scattered three hits and gave up an unearned run.
