ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. −
Kelly Riddick (Hampton, Fla./Central Florida CC) tossed the first no-hitter in the two-year history of the Flagler College softball program and nearly had a perfect game in the opening game of Saturday's non-conference doubleheader against Ave Maria University at Saints Field. Flagler won the first game 9-0 in five innings and ten won the second game, 11-0, also in five innings.
Flagler evened its record at 2-2 while Ave Maria, a NAIA school playing in its first season of varsity softball, fell to 4-8.
Riddick (1-1) tossed a complete game going five innings, walked one batter and fanned 12. Her perfect game bid came to an end in the top of the fifth inning when she walked the lead off hitter, but struck out the side to end the contest.
Four Flagler players had two hits apiece led by
Lauren Ely (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) who doubled and tripled, scored twice and drove in two runs.
Brittney Hatem (Hialeah, Fla./Wallace CC-Dothan) singled, doubled, scored twice and collected one run batted in.
Tori Jolley (Keystone Heights, Fla./Keystone Heights HS) singled and scored twice while
Stacy Piagno (St. Augustine, Fla./Pedro Menendez HS) singled two times, scored a run and drove in another.
Sarah Bronson was the lone Gyrene to reach base. Angela Mullally went two-plus innings and allowed 12 hits and eight earned runs.

In the second game, the Saints erupted for nine runs in the fourth inning to invoke the mercy rule.
Brittany Simmons (Ocala, Fla./Chattanooga State Tech CC) singled, doubled, scored a run and drove in three.
Kaycee Lisa (Seminole, Fla./Seminole HS) singled, tripled and scored twice for the Saints.
Kristen Chapman (Jacksonville, Fla./Sandalwood HS) (1-1) tossed four innings of one-hit ball and struck out six.
Jana Owen (St. Augustine, Fla./Florida CC-Jacksonville) finished the fifth and only yielded a walk.
Chelsey Thompson had the lone base hit for Ave Maria. Janet Holtfreter took the loss after going four innings, allowing 11 hits and four earned runs.
Flagler hosts Florida Tech is a doubleheader on Sunday (Feb. 14) at 1 p.m. at Saints Field.
