COLUMBUS, Ga. − Flagler College finished in 10th place with a 596 after the first two rounds of the 14-team AFLAC/Cougar Invitational on Monday at the Country Club of Columbus (par 71; 6515 yards). The final round will be played tomorrow morning between the top eight remaining teams.

The host school, Columbus State University, leads the pack by one stroke over the University of North Alabama and Valdosta State University. VSU led after firing a first round 285, but added seven strokes in its second round to finish with a 577. Columbus State shot a 288 in both rounds for a 576.

Daniel Stapff of Barry University leads the 75-man field with a 4-under par 138. He has a two-stroke lead over J.P. Griffin of Georgia Southwestern State University, who shot the lowest round of the day – a 5-under 66 – in the second round.

Flagler carded an opening round 304 and was in a tie for 12th place until the team was able to shave 12 strokes in the second round to move into 10th place.

Chris Bray (Hilliard, Fla./Hilliard HS) and Alex Bennett (Rochester, Mich./Scottsdale CC) are tied for 18th place, along with five others, with a 4-over 146. Bray shot a 75 in the first round, but followed with an even par in the second round and was aided by five birdies. Greg Mergel (Allenwood, N.J./Wall Township HS) is in a tie for 27th place with a 6-over 148 and shot a 1-over 72 in the second round. Joel Dahlenburg (St. Augustine, Fla./Bartram Trail HS) is in a tie for 65th place with a 14-over 156. Justin Wingo (Fairfax, Va./George Mason U.) rounds out the Flagler contingent with a 16-over 158 and is in a tie for 68th place.
