JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Flagler College (28-22) plated two runs in the third inning and then added another for insurance in eighth en route to a 3-1 win over Edward Waters College in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday afternoon at Woodstock Park.
Flagler's
Mike Scott (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School) opened the inning by being hit by a pitch and
Chris Guerra (Fremont, Calif./Mount Mercy College) dropped down a bunt and beat the throw, which was off the bag, and that miscue let Scott take third. Guerra stole second and
Randy Miller (Jacksonville, Fla./Florida CC-Jacksonville) drew a walk to load the bases. With an out in the books,
Shane Darnofall (Corry, Pa./Hillsborough CC) hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Scott with the game's first run.
Kenny Bargfeldt (Fishers, Ind./Ball State U.) ripped a single down the right field line to drive in the eventual game winning run in Guerra to give Flagler a 2-0 lead.
Flagler starter
Barry Cressley (Meadville, Pa./Hillsborough CC) (2-1) tossed five innings and allowed just five hits and one run. He fanned five batters on the day.
Paul Mathews (Baton Rouge, La./Saint Louis CC-Meramec) pitched the ninth inning to earn his third save of the year.
Preston Picard (Detroit, Mich./Madonna U.) went 2-for-3 (both singles) and
Kris King (Youngstown, Ohio/Santa Fe CC) went 2-for-4 with a double.
Paul Gibbs went the distance for the Tigers allowing seven hits and three runs. Brian Bradley and James McDonald each collected two singles.
Flagler College wraps up the season with a three-game series against Florida Sun Conference-rival Northwood University. Friday's game starts at 7 p.m. with a Saturday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
