SAVANNAH, Ga. - Mike Cahill tossed 8.1 innings, allowed two hits and fanned eight in leading the Savannah College of Art and Design to a 6-2 win over Flagler College in the Florida Sun Conference opener for both teams Friday night at Grayson Park.

Cahill (2-0) retired 18 of 19 batters and allowed just one base runner to second base until running into trouble in the ninth. Shane Darnofall (Corry, Pa./Hillsborough CC) led off the top of the ninth and reached first after being hit by a pitch. Reno DiCarlantonio (Wellington, Fla./Cardinal Newman HS) ran for Darnofall at first base. After a fly out, Chris Guerra (Fremont, Calif.) reached on a walk to put runners at first and second. Preston Picard (Detroit, Mich./Madonna U.) singled to right-center plating DiCarlantonio and Guerra advanced all the way to third. Cahill was pulled with a 6-1 lead and Jeff Mullikin came on to close the door.

Picard took second after Mullikin unleashed a wild pitch, but Guerra held at third. Bryan Crouch (Jacksonville, Fla./Arlington Country Day School) was issued a free pass to load the bases. Glenn Kiture (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater HS) followed with a sacrifice fly to deep center that scored Guerra to cut the SCAD lead to 6-2. Picard moved to third on an error by the SCAD centerfielder on the play. Mullikin got the last Flagler batter to ground out to end the threat.

James O'Connell led SCAD (6-4, 1-0 Florida Sun) with a single, a double and a run scored.

Randy Miller (Jacksonville, Fla./Florida CC-Jacksonville) hit his seventh double of the season, breaking up Cahill's no-hitter bid with two outs in the fifth inning. Tim DeSutter (Loxahatchee, Fla./Brevard CC) (1-3) took the loss going the distance allowing seven hits and three earned runs. He fanned six. The Flagler defense struggled, committing six errors, three by DeSutter alone.

The same two teams meet on Saturday in a noon doubleheader.
