Monika Kubai of the women's track and field team was selected as the Athlete of the Month, sponsored by Holiday Inn Express for the month of January.
 
Kubai was selected as athlete of the week on Jan. 30.
 
Currently, the sophomore now holds the third fastest time in 3000m run in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region.
 
(From the Jan.30 release) The Schaerding, Austria native broke the previous 3000m school record (10:10.55) at the Alachua County Collegiate in Gainesville, Fla. Kubai crossed the finish line at 9:59.59 to secure fifth overall. The meet included teams from NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NAIA. Kubai currently holds the fastest time in the 3000m run in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region. 

The sophomore also aided Megan Churchill, Lea Steinbach and Marissa Kempf in cracking the previous school record (12:52.86) in the 4000m distance medley relay. The squad finished in third place with a combined time of 12:22.86.
