Ally Marcano of the softball team was selected as the Athlete of the Month, sponsored by Sleep Inn, for the month of February.
Marcano was the athlete of the week during the month for the period ending Feb. 12.
The freshman lefty from Middletown, New York posted a 2-0 record to go along with a miniscule 0.93 earned run average in two starts last week. She tossed a shutout and fanned 15 batters in 15 innings pitched. Marcano tossed a two-hit shutout vs. Florida Southern. She ran into trouble in the sixth inning with the bases loaded and two outs, but induced a line out to end the inning. Against Newberry, Marcano tossed all eight innings and left the go-ahead run stranded at third base. She was selected as the PBC Freshman of the Week.
For the month, Marcano posted a 9-2 record with a 1.67 earned run average. She made 14 appearances with 10 starts and tossed four shutouts. In 75 2/3 innings pitched, Marcano struck out 89 batters. She was selected as the PBC's Freshman of the Week twice and was the PBC Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 20). That same week she was selected as the national pitcher of the week. Â
