Gino Ramirez of the men's tennis team was selected as the Flagler College Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending May 9 and the final award winner for the 2009-10 academic year.
Ramirez won his last two singles and doubles matches and helped lead Flagler to a 1-1 weekend at the NCAA Division II Southeast I Regional. He defeated Christian Warnholtz of Limestone 6-4 and 6-0 in Flagler's first round 5-1 win. Ramirez teammed with David Cotrone, the ninth-ranked doubles team in the country, to win 8-1. Against Francis Marion, he won in singles 7-5 and 6-2 over Dirk Bair and then with Cotrone, beat the seventh-ranked duo of Dislhod Sharifi and Oshada Wijemanne 8-6.
Ramirez went 12-8 this year in singles play, including a 10-3 mark at No. 3. When teammed with Cotrone, the tandem recorded a 15-7 mark all at No. 1.
