AMERICUS, Ga. – In the Peach Belt Conference opener on Wednesday night, the Flagler College men's soccer team (1-0-3 overall, 1-0 PBC) took down Georgia Southwestern (2-3 overall, 0-1 PBC) behind high-level execution on set piece opportunities. The 2-0 victory was the Saints first clean sheet of the season, and the 21^st by goalkeeper Ryan Rivas as he tied Jon Jonsson for the most shutouts in program history.

TURNING POINT
The visiting Saints applied the pressure on the Hurricanes from the opening whistle, generating a corner and a shot within the first minute of action. Flagler would break through in the 16^th minute on their third corner kick of the game. Sophomore Hugues Iguaran sent an inswinger into the box and found the head of Finn Weigelt who buried the early goal into the left corner of the net.
 
Flagler would add a key insurance goal in the 77^th minute on another set piece opportunity. A physical Hurricanes foul to the left of the box would set up a great look for the visiting Saints on a free kick. Senior Will Cain sent a shot towards goal, and a striding Hugues Iguaran managed to get a touch on it to deflect the shot past the goalkeeper and put the Saints up 2-0. Georgia Southwestern only managed eight shots on the night as the Flagler backline held strong to pick up the road victory.

KEY STATS & NOTES

• Senior goalkeeper Ryan Rivas recorded his 21^st career clean sheet, tying the all-time program record. Rivas smothered the only shot he faced on goal.
• Sophomore Hugues Iguaran sparked the Saints offense with his fourth career goal and fourth career assist. The Port Orange, Florida native logged two shots on goal across 54 minutes of work.
• Senior Finn Weigelt found the back of the net for his second goal of the season, and 12^th of his career. Weigelt finished the night with three shots, including two on goal over 73 minutes.
• Oliver Lindstrom, Filip Hornburg, John McGarry, and Luke Williams each recorded multi-shot games.
• Ryan Berger and Filip Hornburg played all 90 minutes on the Saints backline to assist in the clean sheet.
• With the victory, Flagler has won its last six conference openers dating back to 2020.

Flagler will return home and prepare to welcome Clayton State on Saturday, September 12th. Kick off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. after the women's soccer match at 1:00 p.m. Admission is free. Fans can tune into the action on the Peach Belt Conference Sports Network.
