ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Flagler College men's soccer team (2-0-3 overall, 2-0 PBC) continued their hot start to open conference play with a convincing 3-1 victory over Clayton State (3-2-1 overall, 1-1 PBC) on Saturday night. Following an hour and a half lightning delay just two minutes into kickoff, the Saints scored three unanswered goals to route the Lakers at Saints Field.

TURNING POINT
After a scoreless first half of action, Flagler jumped on the visitors early in the second half. In the 48^th minute, the Saints sent a deep ball into the box, where John McGarry settled and touched it over to Finn Weigelt. The senior settled it before striking a shot to the bottom left corner of net to give Flagler a 1-0 advantage.
 
In the 70^th minute, the veteran tandem of Pierce Amalberti and Daniel Becerra connected to extend the Saints lead. Flagler generated a corner kick opportunity and Amalberti sent an inswinger into the box, finding the head of a leaping Becerra who beat the Lakers keeper in the top right corner of the net.
 
Flagler added onto its lead just 11 minutes later on an impressive hustle play by Oliver Lindstrom. The senior sent a high ball back into the box, despite his momentum taking him over the goal line. The chip back into the box found Luke Williams in front of goal as the senior forward sent a header into the left corner of the goal.
 
Clayton State got a goal back four minutes later in the 85^th minute as Joao Amaral sent a laser into the box from midfield. The pass found Jurica Folnegovic in front of net and he found the back of the net to avoid the shutout. Flagler closed out the remaining five minutes and held on to a convincing 3-1 victory in the PBC home opener.

KEY STATS & NOTES

• Senior Finn Weigelt netted his 13^th career goal, and third of the season while playing 66 minutes.
• Veteran defender Daniel Becerra found the back of the net for the first time this season, and the fifth time in his career. The Barranquilla, Colombia native helped a Saints backline keep the Lakers off the board for 84 minutes of action.
• Senior Luke Williams came off the bench and netted his first goal of the season, and 16^th of his storied career. The Jacksonville, Florida native moved up to seventh all-time in Division 2 program history for goals scored.
• Senior Oliver Lindstrom dished out his fifth career assist, and first of the season over 64 minutes of work.
• Pierce Amalberti set up the second Saints goal with his first assist of the season while adding 40 minutes.
• Ryan Rivas got the start in goal and picked up seven saves.
• The victory pushed the Saints winning streak to four straight against the Lakers as Flagler improved to 17-13-2 all-time.

Flagler will return to action on Wednesday, September 16^th at USC Aiken as the Saints continue PBC play. Kick off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from Pacer Pit and fans can tune into the action on the Peach Belt Conference Sports Network.
