DAHLONEGA, Ga. –
Jesse Sullivan belted a double to left in the bottom of the ninth to score the game-winning run as Flagler College edged Georgia Southwestern State University 2-1 in a Peach Belt Conference Tournament baseball game Friday evening at Bob Stein Stadium.
Flagler, the No. 4 seed, improved to 34-16 overall and will face the top-seed and host school, No. 11 (ABCA Top 30) University of North Georgia tomorrow at 11 a.m. Georgia Southwestern dropped to 27-24 and drops into the elimination bracket where it will face Middle Georgia State University at 3 p.m.
Eli Maddox led off the ninth inning with a single up the middle.
Parker Stallard came in to pinch run for Maddox. A sacrifice bunt by
Payton Palladino moved Stallard to second, and then he scored on Sullivan's double.
CJ Hanson (8-2) tossed a complete game and scattered five hits while allowing an unearned run. He struck out eight batters. Hanson retired the first 11 batters in a row and finished by setting down the last 12-of-14 batters he faced.
Sullivan finished the game 2-for-4 with the double and run batted in.
Evan Koehler (7-4) was the hard-luck loser in the pitchers' duel. The PBC Pitcher of the Year allowed two runs on six hits and struck out five batters.
Drake Harman collected two singles and had one RBI.
