ST. AUGUSTINE – Columbus State University's six-run fourth inning leads it to a 9-1 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference softball game Sunday afternoon at Flagler Field.
Flagler fell to 12-34 overall and 8-16 in the Peach Belt. The Lady Cougars are now 31-19 overall and 18-6 in conference play. The Saints will face Georgia Southwestern State University in the last conference series of the season, starting on Friday at 6 p.m.
Mary-Catherine Sorrell broke a 1-all tie in the fourth inning with a two-run single. She would come in to score on Anna Waites' three-run home run to give the Lady Cougars a 7-1 lead.
The Saints got on the board in the second inning with a groundout to the shortstop by
Chloe Montalvo to advance
Stephanie Daly to third and were able to score from an error by the third baseman, unearned.
Hannah Deschambault (9-4) went the distance to grab the win. She allowed one unearned run and produced six fly outs, 11 ground outs, and had two strikeouts.
Sorrell went 2-for-4 with two singles, two runs batted in, and scored once. Izzy Ripatti grabbed two singles and scored once.
Ava Matthews (3-8) got the loss after three-plus innings pitched. She allowed five runs, but only three were earned. Matthews gave up five hits, produced five fly outs, and three ground outs with one strikeout.
Alyssa Hunter came in to pitch one inning.
Jordan Sheets finished the game.
Daly had a single and scored one run.
Emily Ricci went 2-for-3 with two singles.
Hannah Smith and
Annake Meadows both had one single.
