HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The top-ranked Flagler College women's tennis team defeated Lee University, 23-5, in the semifinal round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament this afternoon at Charger Park.
Since beginning as a program in 2022, Flagler has faced the Flames in the opening round of the tournament, and defeated them every time. Flagler will rematch No. 23 University of Alabama in Huntsville on Sunday, Apr. 26 at 12 P.M. (CST).
With no shortage of contributors in this game, 18 different players scored at least point. This is the largest amount in program history. Led by none other than
Jessica Wright, the Saints opened the game with two unanswered goals. Going down 3-2, Flagler reignited with a 17 goal run to push past the Flames. Nearly tripling their shots, Flagler took 45 total shots compared to the Flames 18. 31 of those shots were on goal.
Run by Wright and
Ava Lambros, both attackers scored a match high four points. Lambros finished with a match high two assists and two goals. Wright notched three goals and one assist.
Mia Cosentino,
Izzy Campos,
Maddie Van Den Bossche and
Taylor Halloran each finished with two goals.
An overall team effort had the Saints winning 18 of the 30 draw controls.
Claudia Tanksley tied for a match high four wins while
Greta McGinnis and Cosentino finished with three. Posting a career high in ground balls was Lambros with six, followed by
Kylie Budke with four. Budke and Campos went on to have a match high two caused turnovers each.
