INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Flagler College women's lacrosse team is ranked No. 2 in the second of three NCAA Division II South Regional ranking, which was released Wednesday afternoon. There will be one more published regional ranking before the national tournament field is released.
Flagler holds a 17-0 overall record against Division II competition. Within the region, the Saints are 15-0. Flagler is the top seed at the weekend's Gulf South Conference Tournament at Huntsville, Alabama and will take on Lee University in a semifinal game at 11 a.m. (Central).
Florida Southern College tops the ranking with a 15-1 overall record and a 12-1 mark in the region. Saint Leo University (14-3, 10-2) is No. 3 while the University of Tampa (11-4, 8-3) follows at No. 4. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (12-4, 11-4), Lynn University (9-7, 6-7), Rollins College (10-7, 6-7), and The University of Alabama in Huntsville (9-8, 8-7) round out the ranking.
Flagler's Division II strength of schedule is .568, which is 11
th in region, and its performance indicator is 17.882. The Saints' region rating percentage index (RPI) is .669, which is second in the region behind Florida Southern (.702).
The national tournament selection criteria are based on, in no particular order: in-region winning percentage, D2 winning percentage, D2 strength of schedule, D2 head-to-head competition, and results vs. common D2 opposition.
The NCAA regional rankings are the official rankings used by the committee to select the national tournament field. The top four teams from each region (Atlantic, East, Midwest, and South) will be seeded and paired by regions. Following the completion of the first and second round games, the four advancing teams will be re-seeded based on the selection criteria. The championships will be played May 21-23 at Tiger Stadium in Rochester, New York.
